My Spiritual Toolbox

I had the opportunity to speak to some men from my church, and I wanted to share some of the online resources that have been a blessing to my family and helped us in our relationships with the Lord. I hope they can encourage others also!

FCBH
We’re so thankful for all the audio Bible resources from FaithComesByHearing.com.  They’re a phenomenal organization committed to reaching the nations with the Word of God in audio, offering the Bible in a format that will connect with the world’s 50% illiterate population.  Check out the cool things they’re doing around the world and the awesome resources they make available!

  • You can download the Bible in various versions and languages and listen to it on your favorite MP3 player or phone.
  • Through their Bible.is software, you can listen to and read through the Bible on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, Android device, or even through FaceBook with a group of friends.  Did you know you can go through the whole New Testament in 40 days by listening 28 minutes per day?
  • You can also text the word YES to 24253 (BIBLE) and get a daily text message with a link to listen to a chapter of the New Testament every day.  If you’ve got an Internet-enabled phone, you can listen to the whole New Testament in less than a year this way.
  • The KIDZ Bible is an audio drama presentation of primary Old and New Testament stories, including the harmonized Gospels.  Our family has listened to it dozens of times in our minivan over the last couple years, and we all love it!  My kids know more Bible stories than most adults :)  You can download all the MP3s for free, order an MP3 CD of all of them for $10 (what we use), or a BibleStick (mini MP3 player) they can carry with them for $29.  Go to their Audio Bible Catalogue Store and choose English and then ESV Kidz Bible.

OliveTree.com
The OliveTree.com Mobile Bible software is wonderful!  If you want a mobile Bible (or several in various versions and languages), commentaries, concordances, or tons of other reference materials, I highly recommend the Olive Tree software.  It supports all the devices mentioned above for Bible.is as well as Blackberry, old school Palm (like my Treo), and virtually every mobile PDA type device.  You can view all the devices they support by manufacturer.  There are even lots of free ebooks like “George Washington’s Prayer Journal”, several books on prayer by E.M. Bounds, and others by people like Spurgeon and Wesley.  Some things require a purchase, like books by John MacArthur, but there’s tons of totally free stuff too.

BibleGateway.com is searchable online Bible - a very nice site I use every week.  You can look up passages by their reference or search for verses by keywords in over 21 English versions, 7 Spanish versions, or around 50 other languages.  It’s a great way to be able to copy and paste a verse into an email for a friend or include it on a web site or elsewhere.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

The 100 most-read Bible verses at BibleGateway.com is a cool list of key verses if you’re interested in some great memory verses or simply having a list to print out and have handy or share with someone.

BLB
The BlueLetterBible.org is yet another excellent, online Bible study site.  And yes, it comes with an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch application now also :) You can look up any verse in the Bible and then view the Concordance for that verse which shows every word in Hebrew or Greek.  Click on any word and you’ll see the definition of the word along with links to every other location of that word in the Bible.  There are also multiple Dictionary Aids like Nave’s Topical Bible and Vine’s Expository Dictionary as well as a slew of Commentaries by people like Matthew Henry, Chuck Smith, and J. Vernon McGee.

For anyone with a PDA or phone with the original Palm OS, I would recommend checking out the MyVerses software.  It’s a great way to memorize scripture!
